Steps for Applying to College
You can start submitting your application on August 1. Application priority dates and deadlines vary from campus to campus.
STEP 1: THE APPLICATION
The best and most convenient way to apply is through the online application. You can quickly apply to multiple UW campuses with one application.
All UW Colleges and Universities: apply.wisconsin.edu
Common Application: commonapp.org
Wisconsin Private Colleges, technical colleges, and all other colleges: application can be found on individual campus website
STEP 2: TRANSCRIPTS
If you are applying to a UW college online, you can upload an unofficial copy of your transcripts directly in your application. Your transcript can be found in your skyward account under the portfolio tab. Please note that you will be required to send an official copy upon graduation.
To send transcripts to any other college or to request an official transcript, you need to order it through Parchment. There is a link to Parchment on our high school student services website. The current cost is $4.15 per transcript.

If you’ve completed any coursework through a college or university while enrolled in high school, contact the college or university to request that an official transcript be sent directly to each campus that you’re applying to.
STEP 3: TEST SCORES
Test scores are optional for students applying now through the spring 2025 term. If you choose to send your scores, you will need to order them directly from the ACT website:
www.actstudent.org
STEP 4: APPLICATION FEE
The application fee for all UW campuses with the exception of UW-Eau Claire ($25), UW-La Crosse ($25), and UW-Madison ($60) has been suspended for all undergraduate applicants effective as of December 11, 2020, for approximately the next two years.
STEP 5: LETTER(S) OF RECOMMENDATION
A recommendation letter helps reveal aspects of your potential not obvious in your grades and test scores. While a letter isn’t required, unless you’re planning on attending UW-Madison, you’re welcome to submit one. It is helpful in showcasing your communication skills, interpersonal skills, and intellectual curiosity.
