Summer Driver Education
Slinger High School
About our Program:
Slinger High School offers a high quality, comprehensive, Driver Education program (Summers ONLY) with well-trained, experienced instructors. Our classroom portion includes not only thorough information on driving knowledge and laws, but also covers attitudes, emotions, alcohol, insurance and more. We also have a variety of guest speakers, typically including people from law enforcement, insurance, an organ donation agency, and the trucking industry. Our caring instructors will provide a meaningful experience for your son or daughter. Behind the wheel training is also offered in the summer. Students not finishing in summer will drive in September, if needed. The following is a summary of the program. We will do our best to accommodate people’s needs. If you have further questions please contact Duane Apel at duane.apel@slingerschools.org or call 262-644-5261.

When can my son/daughter get their permit (or “temps”)?
This is always the BIG question! Due to state regulations, students may not get their permit until they are 15 years old, AND are within 60 days of starting formal BTW driving instruction. Students who take both the classroom AND BTW through Slinger High School are given the written permit test during their classroom session. If they pass they may then go to the DMV and pick up their permit. That will be about 5 days into the classroom session. That is how the eligibility dates below are established. NOTE: Students must start BTW instruction within 13 months of completing classroom, according to state regulations.
*Eligibility Dates for Enrolling in BTW:
For BTW Session A: Student must turn age 15 on or before June 14, 2024
For BTW Session B: Student must turn age 15 on or before June 17, 2024
For BTW Session C: Student must turn age 15 on or before July 10, 2024
For BTW Session D: Student must turn age 15 on or before July 12, 2024
For BTW Session E: Student must turn age 15 on or before July 31, 2024
For BTW Session F: Student must turn age 15 on or before August 5, 2024
For Fall BTW, Session G: Student must turn age 15 on or before August 28, 2024
*Also: Be aware that BTW must be started within 13 months of the completion of classroom instruction due to state regulations.
*Commercial Driving School option: IMPORTANT INFORMATION!
Students who have turned 15 by the dates posted above may take CLASSROOM session through Slinger High School this summer and then enroll at a commercial driving company for BTW instruction. Students choosing this option will have to take the permit test on their own at the DMV after classroom instruction is completely finished AND you have enrolled with a commercial driving company. The private driving company you choose will provide you with a signed permit application form. The high school cannot provide that. Do NOT go to the DMV without first enrolling in behind the wheel or you will be denied a permit!
