Jazz Ensemble
The Instrumental Music Department at Slinger High School consists of two concert bands, a marching band, pep band, and two jazz ensembles. In addition, a music theory class is offered to all students.
There is a rich tradition of music in the Slinger schools. The bands have won numerous awards for excellence at regional and national festivals. The jazz ensembles have won "best band" awards at many jazz festivals throughout the country. Jazz Ensemble I has received 24 consecutive starred first ratings in class A at both district and state solo and ensemble festival. The bands travel extensively and have received many accolades for their superb performances. Like the jazz ensembles, the marching band and pep band often act as a public relations vehicle representing our school and community at a variety of civic functions. Our community is extremely proud of our long and storied tradition.
The SHS bands meet daily for a forty minute rehearsal. The jazz ensembles meet every other day for forty minutes. The bands pride themselves in playing only the highest caliber of concert and jazz literature.
The marching band plays for all home football games, while the pep band plays for select volleyball, wrestling, and boys and girls basketball games. The concert bands perform three major concerts each year. Although previous instrumental experience is preferred, students with no prior musical experience are encouraged to join. Slinger students take great pride in producing a quality musical product.
